Jack Johnson
January 2, 2013, will mark one hundred and four years since Jack Johnson became the first black world heavyweight boxing champion.
In commemoration of this historic event, RING MEMORABILIA is proud to offer a rare JACK JOHNSON autographed piece. The following item was autographed and dated by Jack Johnson on December 19, 1941. It is the largest single autographed original Jack Johnson piece in existence. Offered is an original cardboard appearance poster measuring approx 22 inches tall x 14 inches wide. One can picture the grin on Johnson's smiling face when he signed this and speculate about the enterprising youngster, having no photo or autograph book, deciding to remove the poster from an outside wall and bring it inside for his hero to sign. Very likely, the only Jack Johnson autographed poster in existence. It is boldly signed and dated by Johnson in black fountain pen; "Jack Johnson Dec 19-41". If you're looking for a unique Johnson signed piece, then this is it. It bears remembering that Jack Johnson's chief source of income in his later years was derived from his personal appearances and autograph sessions. This poster says all that and more! Its now for sale at $8,500. The cardboard poster itself is in good condition with several light creases, edge wear and has two white spots and some staining. It exhibits vivid red and black colors on a white background. It has been additionally backed with brown cardboard as found. It also bears the union seal of Globe Poster Corp. Chicago. The signature is adjacent to a beautiful head-to-toe photo of Johnson and rates a 10. An outstanding display piece, it is currently in a custom made frame and can be shipped as such.
