Carmen Basilio Signed Original Press Photo – 1955 US Marine Corps.

This original 1955 wire photograph shows the pre-fight fighting fit form of the Welterweight Champion of the World as he demonstrates the correct method for the combat used bayonet thrust. It was graciously signed for me by Carmen in bold blue sharpie at the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota New York. It is in excellent condition, with the original caption, clean front & back and measures 7 3/4 x 7 inches. A crystal clear image.  This one got a great laugh out of Carmen when I showed it to him! This photo was taken in Syracuse several days before his rematch with Tony Demarco. On November 30, 1955 at the Boston Garden Carmen Basilio defended his welterweight title against the man he won it from, Tony DeMarco. In a fight named Fight Of The Year by Ring Magazine Basilio stopped DeMarco in the 12th round.

Carmen Basilio was born on April 2, 1927 in Canastota, New York. He won the World Welterweight Title on June 10, 1955 from Tony DeMarco. He won the World Middleweight Title from Ray Robinson on September 23, 1957. He retired after losing to Paul Pender on April 22, 1961 with a final record of 56-16-7 with 27 KO’s. Presented here is a signed original wire photo from 1955.
