Dick Tiger vs. Emile Griffith
WORLD’S MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
MADISON SQUARE GARDEN, NYC
On April 25, 1966, these two fan favorites met at Madison Square Garden to fight for the World’s Middleweight Championship. Dick Tiger the reigning champ had known Griffith (the reigning Welterweight champ) for a number of years as both were located in New York City. Griffith out pointed Tiger over 15 rounds, to win the Middleweight Crown (while at the same time holding the Welterweight Championship) and in the process became the first man to knock Tiger off his feet.
