George Chuvalo was born on September 12, 1937 in Toronto, Canada. He won the Canadian Heavyweight Title but lost in his bout for the WBA Heavyweight Title. He fought George Foreman and Floyd Patterson, among others. His final record was 73-18-2 with 64 KO’s. Presented here is an original press photograph in excellent condition, with caption attached, clean front & back which has been signed by George Chuvalo. George graciously signed this original wire photo for me in bold blue sharpie at the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, New York. It measures 9 x 7 inches and is in NM/MT condition. Beautiful piece!

George Chuvalo Signed Original Wire Photo – 1965

On February 1, 1965 at Madison Square Garden in New York former world heavyweight champion Floyd Patterson fought rugged Canadian contender George Chuvalo. Patterson won a unanimous 12 round decision.  On November 1, 1965 at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto heavyweights Ernie Terrell and George Chuvalo battled for the WBA Heavyweight Title. Terrell prevailed winning a 15 round decision. On March 29, 1966 at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, Canada local fan favorite George Chuvalo challenged world heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali for his title. Ali dominated the fight clearly outboxing Chuvalo en route to winning a unanimous 15 round decision.  On June 23, 1966 at Madison Square Garden in New York heavyweight contenders George Chuvalo and Oscar Bonavena battled in the main event. Bonavena won a close ten round majority decision. On July 19,1967 Joe Frazier met George Chuvalo in a heavyweight bout. Frazier would win the bout by TKO in the 4th round. On February 3, 1969 at Madison Square Garden in New York heavyweights George Chuvalo and Buster Mathis fought in the main event. Mathis won an easy 12 round decision.   On Tuesday, August 4, 1970 rising heavyweight star George Foreman fought aging George Chuvalo at Madison Square Garden in New York. The powerful Foreman stopped Chuvalo in three rounds. On May 10, 1971 at the Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto heavyweights George Chuvalo and Jimmy Ellis met in a featured bout. Ellis prevailed winning a unanimous ten round decision over Chuvalo. On May 1, 1972 in Vancouver, British Columbia Muhammad Ali defended his NABF title against George Chuvalo. Ali prevailed against the durable Chuvalo winning an easy 12 round decision.
